Chicago 6, Kansas City 1 in third Integrated Baseball All-Star Game

Sept. 4, 1922 (KANSAS CITY, Mo.) - Right-hander Smokey Joe Williams, considered by many to be black baseball's greatest pitcher, got the win when Chicago beat Kansas City 6-1 here at Association Park to win the third annual annual Integrated Baseball All-Star Game with teams of players from the National League, American League, Negro National League, and other negro leagues.

Williams struck out six, and Babe Ruth, Jimmie Lyons, and Rabbit Maranville were caught looking.

Left-hander Herb Pennock, a Quaker from Pennyslvania, got the save for Chicago.

Right-hander Pete Alexander took the loss for Kansas City as he allowed 12 hits, and left-handed reliever Dave Brown allowed six.

Chicago scored the first run of the game in the top of the third when first baseman George Sisler reached second on a hit-and-run by catcher Louis Santop, and then center fielder Max Carey hit a well-placed single to send Sisler home.

Kansas City answered in the bottom of the third, with starting pitcher Pete Alexander reaching second on an error by Chicago left fielder Hurley McNair, and with Kansas City first baseman Ben Taylor sending Alexander home on a double to tie the score 1-1.

Chicago broke the tie in the top of the fourth against Alexander. The first run came when Williams tapped in third baseman Dave Malarcher on a squeeze play, then second baseman Johnny Evers scored on right fielder Harry Heilman's single. McNair then hit a double and Heilman beat the throw to home and scored. Sisler then scored McNair on a well-placed single.

Chicago scored one last run in the top of the eighth after Chaney White hit a triple and Sisler sent him home on a single.

Sisler ws the star of the game with four hits and one stolen base. He was caught stealing on three more tries.
